How We Keep the Boys & Girls Club Safe

At the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, the safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We are committed to maintaining a positive, secure environment where all children and families feel safe and supported. If you have any concerns about the safety of a child or notice suspicious or inappropriate behavior involving a staff member, volunteer, or any adult, please don’t hesitate to let us know by clicking here. Together, we can ensure every child in our care thrives in a protected, nurturing environment.

Our Safety Policies and Practices

We follow strict safety protocols to ensure a safe environment, including policies around bathroom use, one-on-one contact, and active supervision. Every incident, no matter how small, is reported immediately to a supervisor and, if necessary, to the appropriate authorities.

Annual Safety Assessments and Training

Each year, we conduct a comprehensive safety assessment at all of our club locations. Staff participate in emergency preparedness trainings and engage in policy reviews every six months to keep our procedures up to date. As new best practices emerge, our team undergoes ongoing training to ensure we continue meeting the highest standards in youth safety.

Staff and Volunteer Screening

We are committed to selecting only the most qualified individuals to work with our youth. All staff and volunteers must pass a thorough screening process, including local, state, and national background checks as well as checks against sex offender registries. These background screenings are renewed annually for staff and routinely for volunteers to maintain a safe environment.

Preventing Inappropriate Behavior

Our staff receive specialized training in recognizing signs of inappropriate behavior and understanding how to respond effectively. Training in child protection begins during onboarding and continues annually to keep everyone up to date on best practices for preventing child abuse and ensuring healthy, safe interactions at the Club.

Safety Oversight at Every Level

Safety is a top priority throughout our organization. A board-level Programs and Safety Committee, which includes an officer from the Pasadena Police Department, actively oversees our safety efforts to ensure we maintain the highest standards. Safety is also a standing agenda item at all Senior Staff Meetings to ensure continuous focus on this critical area.

Our Code of Conduct

We uphold the highest ethical standards across every aspect of our work, from our interactions with children to financial transparency and incident reporting. Our staff, volunteers, and board members all adhere to this code, ensuring that every child in our care is treated with respect and compassion. We also cooperate fully with authorities to address and resolve any concerns swiftly and responsibly.
