HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

At Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, our programs are built around key pillars that guide everything we do, ensuring that every child and teen has access to meaningful opportunities for growth and success. Each pillar – Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Leadership – represents a core area of child development, with programs designed to inspire, educate, and empower our members.

Healthy Lifestyles

Physical and Emotional Fitness for the Next Generation

At Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, we understand that healthy habits are key to great futures for kids. That’s why our programs emphasize ways to stay active and eat right, and build healthy relationships and self-care routines. From sports and outdoor adventures to nutrition workshops, we make learning about fitness exciting and accessible, while programs like Passport to Manhood give youth tools they need to navigate the challenges of growing into healthy and productive adults. These experiences help members grow into confident, capable leaders ready to inspire positive change in their communities.

The programs listed below are a few examples of the many opportunities available under our Healthy Lifestyles pillar. Every Club member has access to these resources, with participation based on age-appropriate guidelines for each program.

Our diverse lineup of activities includes team sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, pickleball, and more. Swim teams, swimming lessons, and water volleyball also keep kids and youth in our two beautiful pool facilities year-round. Whether playing for fun or competing at a higher level, every member has the opportunity to stay active and build confidence and skills through athletics.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America's evidence-based Triple Play program nurtures the minds, bodies, and souls of Club members. In the Triple Play experience, members are challenged to become healthy and more active by learning new ways to eat nutritionally, manage stress, maintain physical fitness, and form positive relationships with peers.

SMART MOVES

SMART stands for Skills Mastery and Resistance Training which teaches members how to say “no” to drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity with the help of Club staff, peer leaders, parents, and community speakers. By engaging members, ages 6-15 in role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, and strengthening decision-making skills, the program gives members important life skills to carry them through their teen years.
