How WE Keep the Boys & Girls Club Safe

We are dedicated to upholding the highest level of professionalism and safety. The Club provides a positive, safe environment for all kids and families. If you have any concern about the safety or well-being of a child, or if you would like to report suspicious or inappropriate behavior by an adult, Club staff, or volunteer please take a moment to let us know by clicking here.

Club Safety Policies and Practices

Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena uses strict internal standards regarding bathrooms, one-on-one contact, and daily supervision to ensure the Club environment is structured to protect all Club members. All critical incidences, regardless of severity, are reported immediately to a supervisor, and if appropriate to necessary authorities.

Annual Club Safety Assessment

Each Clubhouse completes an annual safety assessment, provides regular emergency procedure trainings for all staff, and completes a 6 month review of the Club’s safety policies and procedures. Club staff receive ongoing training regarding new best practices as they are developed.

Staff/Volunteer Selection

For every staff/volunteer applicant, the Club completes a comprehensive screening before their involvement in any program. These background checks include local, state-wide, national background checks for criminal history and sex-offender registry. Background screenings are completed annually for all staff, and regularly for new volunteers.

Prevention of Child Molestation

Club staff are consistently trained to be vigilant in recognizing the early signs that put children at-risk for inappropriate interactions with adults or kids. Staff receive specific training in this area when hired. Updated trainings are completed each year by all staff to ensure they remain current in this critically important area of child safety.

Board Level Safety Committee

A board-level Programs and Safety Committee, that includes an officer of the Pasadena Police Department, is actively engaged to ensure relevant and appropriate strategies exist at all levels of the organization. Similarly, safety is a standing agenda item at all Senior Staff Meetings within the organization.

Code of Conduct

Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena is committed to the highest ethical standards in all areas including interactions with children, incident reporting, including full cooperation with the authorities, finances, and data reporting. These standards are fully enforced with all staff, volunteers, board members, and other individuals involved in the organization.
