Healthy Lifestyles

Adopt a healthy diet, practice healthy lifestyle choices and make a lifelong commitment to fitness.

New Triple Play nurtures the “minds,” “bodies,” and “souls” of Club members. Through the Triple Play experience, the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena challenges members to become healthy and more active by learning new ways to eat nutritionally, manage stress, maintain physical fitness, and form positive relationships with peers. Its goal is to improve our members’ knowledge of healthy habits, increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities, and strengthen their ability to interact positively with others.

SMART Moves stands for Skills Mastery and Resistance Training. What does that mean for your child? It means that he or she will learn how to say “no” to drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity with the help of Club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives. SMART Moves accomplishes this by engaging members, ages 6-15, in role-playing, having them practicing resistance and refusal skills, helping them develop assertiveness, and strengthening their decision-making skills.

SMART Girls is an offshoot of SMART Moves and offers tracks for girls ages 8-12 and 13-17. The program provides them with a safe setting in which to explore the health and social issues unique to them, and emphasizes health, fitness, and prevention education while building self-esteem and the confidence to make the right choices.

Passport to Manhood addresses the challenges our male Club members face as they transition from boyhood to manhood. This program teaches responsibility to boys, ages 11-14, and includes activities designed to reinforce character, leadership, and positive behavior. Ethics, decision-making, wellness, fatherhood, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, and diversity are among the topics explored.

Temptations abound on the Internet which makes NetSmartz an important addition to our programming. By utilizing multimedia activities and interaction with Club staff, NetSmartz teaches Internet safety skills—including personal safety, shopping safety, and ethical use of the Internet—to youth in the 6-7, 8-12 and 13-18 age groups.
