This month The Huntington Library welcomed nine members of our Torch Club and Keystone leadership club to help out at its annual Shakespeare Day. Our members assisted visitors to the library, museum, and gardens with bard-related activities such as a Shakespeare word search and “quarto” construction. A quarto is created from one large sheet of paper folded twice to make an 8-page book or pamphlet. Quartos were employed in Shakespeare’s time as a way to stretch paper and ink, both of which were costly. Our kids had a blast and are already looking forward to next year’s celebration of all things Shakespeare.
