Slavik vs. Mackenzie-Scott in Friendly Swim Meet

In the spirit of the holidays, the Blue Rays swim squads from the Slavik and Mackenzie-Scott branches squared off in some friendly competition on December 14 in the Mackenzie-Scott pool. Twenty-five swimmers each swam in at least two of four scheduled events, which included the 50-meter butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.  The match allowed our swimmers to work on their strokes and Coach James and Coach Matt an opportunity to closely observe their progress.

“My M.O. was to watch their dives, which is something we have just started to work on since most of the swimmers are pretty efficient in the four competitive strokes now,” said Coach James.

Notable swims were posted by Club members Katlyn, 8, and Tonan, 8, who both swam the 50-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle for the first time; Ria, 8, who swam her first 50-meter freestyle in 1:08.90; Jonathan, 10, who dropped one second in his 50-meter freestyle time with a 43.21 second swim; Josue, 9, with a time of 1:17.16 in the 50-meter  freestyle; Rose, 10, who posted  1:05.00 in the 50-meter breaststroke; Jim, 13, who swam his first 50-meter butterfly in  57.59 seconds, and Alfonso, 15, who shaved a whole five seconds off his 100-meter freestyle time!
