Robotics Event Welcomes Southland Clubs

Our Slavik Branch played host to the Club’s third annual Robotics Competition, welcoming teams from the East Los Angeles, Carson, Venice, and Santa Monica Boys & Girls Clubs in addition to our own. The event was divided into three portions: building, programming and operating Lego MindStorms robots through an obstacle course. First place went to East Los Angeles; second to Carson; and third to Pasadena! But, really, every Club was a winner!

Special thanks go out to Louise Jandura, chief engineer of the Mars Curiosity rover’s sampling system at nearby Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She helped judge the event and gave an inspiring speech, encouraging our kids to continue to work hard in school so they can achieve their dreams.
