Disaster preparedness was the lesson of the day when the American Red Cross presented a free event called “Clara’s Kits” at its Glendale facility on February 8. Our BGCP families teamed up with Red Cross volunteers to learn how to prepare themselves for emergencies. Parents were taught how to get their families ready for disasters, like house fires and earthquakes, while their children (depending on age) attended a Sesame Street puppet show or an interactive class called “The Backpack Project,” in which they will also learn how to prepare for and react to emergencies. At the end of the event each family was given a starter emergency kit for home use. Our thanks to the American Red Cross for making this important class available to us!
