BGCP was pleased to welcome the Pasadena Police Foundation this month, which hosted a water safety class for 20 of our members as part of its Kids Safety Academy. Assisting with the presentation were the Club’s Aquatics Director James Granados and Aquatics Specialist Ricky Righteous, who demonstrated simple skills like floating, blowing bubbles, and how to call for help, explained the meaning of the different signs that are posted in the pool area, and the importance of always swimming with a buddy. The class also showed members how to perform a throwing assist (in photo) and how to help a distressed swimmer, and included fun activity sheets and prizes for all who attended.
The Kids Safety Academy is a six-session class offered to elementary school aged children and their parents/guardians. The program participants learn basic safety rules that apply to emergencies, fire, pool, bicycle, wildlife and outdoor safety. The sessions are held at topic-specific locations within the community, such as the Fire Department, Aquatics Center and Nature Center.
