More than 100 of our members received a pair of new shoes, absolutely free, on March 23—courtesy of the Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids Program. Starting at 7 a.m., the Payless ShoeSource on North Lake Avenue in Pasadena was ready to help our kids select their shoes and redeem their $20 gift cards provided by the company. For many of these kids, who are accustomed to used and hand-me-down shoes, this “purchase” represented their first new pair of shoes. Not surprisingly, the excited comments expressed that day ranged from “I love my new cowboy boots!” to “I have new casual Friday shoes!” to “I love my new sparkly flats!”
The Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids program was launched in 2008 to provide properly fitting shoes to children in need. Today, Payless continues to partner with local nonprofit organizations like ours to help families who struggle to provide their children with basic essentials on a daily basis, and will give away more than $1.5 million in free children’s shoes this year.
