M-S Girls Win Rocket Launch Contest

Girl power was in full force when a team of rocket launchers from our Mackenzie-Scott Branch took home first prize in the first ever Rocket Launching Competition hosted by the LA County Alliance and the X Prize Foundation on June 20. Clubs from all over Los Angeles County took part in the event, attempting to launch rockets (made from 2-liter plastic bottles) that could carry an egg more than 100 feet in the air and land it without breaking.

As winners, our team will get to visit X Prize Foundation headquarters in Culver City to view a model of Virgin Galactic’s Space Two rocket, which will begin flying ordinary citizens on short trips to space later this year.
