Eagle Scout Candidate Transforms Teen Center

Matthew Van Wyk, an Eagle Scout candidate from La Canada Troop 501, led a group of 26 fellow scouts and parents in creating a new library and study lounge in the Teen Center at our Slavik branch this month. Under Van Wyk’s direction, the team cleaned, painted walls, brought in new furniture, and adorned the walls with artwork and college pennants. They also installed new bookshelves which they filled with more than 500 books donated by the community for this project. Appreciation goes out to Mike Scheffler and Linda Braverman of Yamada Enterprises, who donated the shelves and a study table, and to Larry Loo of Dunn-Edwards, who donated paint. But our biggest thanks are reserved for Matthew and his parents, David and Judy Van Wyk, who made this project happen.
