We are proud to announce that Ivonne Gonzalez, 14, a member of our Slavik Branch, will vie for the title of Los Angeles County Youth of the Year next month against 27 other Club kids, one from each of the Clubs that comprise the Boys & Girls Club of America Los Angeles County Alliance. Youth of the Year is the BGCA’s premier youth recognition program and recognizes members’ outstanding contributions to their family, school, community, and Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles they have overcome.
Ivonne, a freshman at Pasadena High School, is a member of the Blue Rays swim team and serves as president of Keystone, a leadership club that promotes service to club and community. She has participated in Heal the Bay’s annual Coastal Cleanup Day; the annual Toys for Tots toy drive, and helped organize a donation drive for U.S. troops stationed overseas. Outside the Boys & Girls Club, Ivonne plays softball and is an avid practitioner of Tae Kwon Do.
The Los Angeles County YOY winner will be announced March 19 at the Nokia Theater at LA LIVE. That winner will advance to state competition, followed by regional and national competition, which takes place in Washington D.C. later this year.
