Club to Open New STEM Lab

Thanks to a generous donation from the family of former board member Frank Brooks, Jr., the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena will cut the ribbon on a new STEM Lab for our members at the Mackenzie-Scott branch. Brooks, who passed away in February of this year, served on our board from 1988 to 2010; his family gifted the Club with funds to establish the lab as his legacy. A technology center at the Club’s Slavik branch on Del Mar Boulevard was previously named for Brooks in 2005.

STEM is an acronym for the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The Club’s lab will provide its members with the opportunity to learn about these disciplines in an integrated manner along with conducting related experiments and activities. The lab will also offer information on STEM careers.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and reception will take place on Thursday, December 4, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Members of the late Mr. Brooks family along with members of the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors, local dignitaries, Pasadena Unified School District officials, and individual and corporate donors are expected to attend.
