Club Kids Give Dogs a New Leash on Life

Thanks to a unique partnership between the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena and the K9 Youth Alliance, our teen members were given the opportunity to learn compassion and responsibility while teaching some shelter dogs new tricks. The three-week course took place at the Pasadena Humane Society where each day for two hours, five of our teens put five pooches through their paces with the goal of finding them their fur-ever homes following “graduation.” During that time our members taught their canine charges basic obedience, agility, and a few tricks, while setting goals for themselves.

The program was created by the K9 Youth Alliance and will continue several more times this year with new groups of Club kids each time. As many of our members love animals but come from families who can’t afford a pet or live in places that don’t allow pets, this program already has a waiting list for the next session.
