Club Hosts First-Ever Robotics Competition

Teams from four area Boys & Girls Clubs got their geek on for the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena’s first annual Robotics Competition.  Youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica (Main Club), East Los Angeles, Santa Monica JAMS Clubhouse, and Pasadena competed in three rounds of robotics (building, programming, and guiding their robot through an obstacle course) and were scored on how fast they achieved their goal.  First place went to the Santa Monica Main Club; second place to Pasadena, third place to East Los Angeles, and fourth place to Santa Monica JAMS Clubhouse. A second team from Pasadena was awarded fifth place. Besides offering a chance for members to show off their robotics skills, the event also sought to cultivate relationships between members and staff of the various clubs, said Slavik Branch Technology Director Albert Hernandez, who coordinated the event.
