The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena Blue Rays swim team faced off against the La Verne Gators during their first meet of the season on October 25. More than 50 swimmers took part in the competition. One of the most exciting events was the girls’ 50-yard butterfly for ages 11-12. Our own Hilary Santos faced off against one of the La Verne Gators top swimmers and took first place by just one one-hundredth of a second! The two girls were stroke for stroke until the very last stroke when Hilary had an excellent finish and out-reached her competitor for the win with the time of 33.81 seconds. There was a review of the watches to confirm her victory.
Other notable swims included: Diego Fittipaldi, 9, who took second in the 100-yard freestyle for boys 9-10 with a time of 1:22.37; Quincey Sariano, 11, who took first in the 50-yard breaststroke for boys 11-12 with a time of 40.88 seconds; Joseph Sitzman, 9, who took first in the 50-yard breaststroke for boys 9-10 with a time of 52.03 seconds; Jessica Allen, 9, who took first in the 50-yard breaststroke for girls 9-10 with a time of 45.83 seconds; and Ewan Lamond, 7, who took first in the 50-yard breaststroke for his age group with a time of 52.91 seconds. Amber Elias, 7, Steven Li, 7, Cooper Klosterman, 7, and Joseph Proctor, 9, also had some great swims!
“I was extremely proud of the Blue Rays,” said Aquatics Director James Granados. “At times it was hard for me to believe that this was the first swim meet for some of our newer swimmers on the team!”
A special thanks goes out to all of the Blue Rays parents who helped throughout the swim meet.
