Giovanni “Gio” Gandini
Mackenzie-Scott Branch Club Member 1989-2000
Early Childhood/Adult Years: Giovanni “Gio” Gandini was born in Los Angeles in 1983 and lived with his family in San Gabriel. Gio was a student in the Pasadena Unified School District and attended Willard Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, and Pasadena High School. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 2000 and attended college at American Intercontinental University where he received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Visual Communications/ 3D Animation.
Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena Experience: Gio attended the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena Slavik Branch beginning in 1989. The Slavik Branch was, and still is, a convenient afterschool program for many Willard Elementary students. Gio and his friends would attend the Slavik Branch after school and participate in various activities. These activities included learning to write very basic software in our computer labs, shaping wooden blocks into pine wood derby cars for racing, basketball leagues, arts & crafts, Ping Pong, Foosball, pool tournaments, and learning how to swim When Gio entered high school he would walk to the Slavik Branch to continue to participate in Club activities. Gio attended the Slavik Branch less during 11th and 12th grades, but still remembers how learning basic computer programming skills helped him pursue his degree in college.
Professional Career: Gio began working with Leslie’s Pools and Supplies Inc. in 2008 as an assistant manager at its Arcadialocation. In 2010 he was promoted and started managing Leslie’s Pasadena location. Gio has had a huge hand in connecting the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena with the Leslie’s corporation. Thanks to his hard work, we are able to purchase pool chemicals at non-profit rates and are on track to receive a donation of new pool automation equipment for both our pools. . Gio would also like to further help promote “pool safety” at our Clubs through Leslie’s Pool Safety Programs. J
